Ryan ST-A, 2-place tandem open cockpit monoplane that served as primary trainer for tens of thousands of pilots leading up to & during WWII.Hard to say what defining characteristic is,it’s 5-cylinder radial,snaggletooth jugs protruding from cowl (or ST-M with neatly cowled inline),open cockpit or polished sheet metal fuselage complemented by fabric-covered wings & tail & spindly looking gear that added to beauty of design instead of detracting.
